In late October, Christina (my wife) and I were driving through the worn down mountains and coal towns of southern Pennsylvania, and it hit me that just a few miles back, we’d passed through a perfect metaphor for the year: Wild and Wonderful West Virginia. It was almost foreign from our perspective, a little rough around the edges, and – being only 15 miles wide at the point we drove through – passed by in the blink of an eye.
Models & Images brought me on to photograph Daisy’s book, and I couldn’t believe how strong of a model she was. Brand new to the industry and already nationally signed with State in LA, she effortlessly commands both camera and runway.
The winter took a day off at the same time I’m reading Elizabeth Messina’s “The Luminous Portrait”, so I took the afternoon to shoot in the style she touts in her book. She’s a natural light film photographer and while that’s not at all my style, there is something deeply romantic about it.
